Secure the consignment note in the version handed over, the goods and dangerous-goods description, packaging and marking photographs, supporting documents and communications before and at handover. Record when and how each person learned of the danger.
If the carrier reacts, record the place, time, measure, notifications and resulting costs. If the goods are unloaded, destroyed or rendered harmless, the circumstances and the goods’ whereabouts should remain traceable.
Where knowledge is disputed, costs are substantial, other goods were damaged or the carriage crosses a border, the complete transport file should be reviewed promptly. The firm can help assess the information, possible claims and sensible next steps.
